New Sound Library recorded at the famous Khun Tan Tunnel in VR, DMS, MONO & STEREO!

Brief history!

The Khun Tan Tunnel is Thailand's longest railway tunnel with 1,362 meters in length and an approximately one-hour drive from Chiangmai.

The tunnel's construction was a tremendous undertaking and began in 1907 and was completed in 1918. We can't imagine what it was like back then, deep in the jungle, surrounded not just by venomous snakes, mosquitos but also by wild tigers. Not to mention the heat, humidity, and physical labor.

According to one source, over 1,000 workers died as a result of malaria, cholera, fights, accidents, and being attacked by wild animals.

When you arrive today, you will see friendly locals selling street food, sleeping dogs, and a swarm of chickens roaming around and hiding from roosters.

We came here to record the ambience of the passing trains, which will be available in this new sound library.

What kind of microphones did we use?

Schoeps DMS kit, Rode NTSF1 (ambisonic), Tascam X8 with contact microphone and LOM Geofon (position within the tunnel), and Zoom H1n (location above the tunnel).

With all of this gear, we were able to record the ambience and the sound effects from a variety of angles, and as an added bonus, we went to the iconic White Bridge and recorded rural ambience, room tone inside an abandoned hydroelectric power facility, and another by passing train from the distance.
