Experience the Unseen Sonic Depths of Korean Underground Parking Garages in VR, DMS and Stereo

Have you ever wondered about the unique soundscape of Korean underground parking garages often depicted in dramas? This curiosity drove me to delve into the acoustical depths of these urban mazes, resulting in our new sound library: 'Korean Underground Parking Sounds'. It offers an immersive auditory journey through the echoing halls of these concrete structures.

Equipped with a Sound Devices Mix Pre 6ii, a Zoom F6, a Rode NTSF1 ambisonic microphone, and a Schoeps DMS system, I set out to capture the authentic sounds of these spaces.

BUSAN

In Busan, my recording session was set at the mouth of an underground parking garage. The soundscape was bustling with cars zooming in and out, the warning alert sounds complemented by nearby flowing water and soft-spoken Korean conversations, adding to the nocturnal ambiance.

JEJU ISLAND

My journey continued to a lavish 5-star hotel on Jeju Island. The sprawling underground parking lot was alive with echoes of muted voices and footsteps bouncing off the walls, resulting in a unique atmosphere. The standout sound was our Lexus: its doors opening and closing, the engine's robust purr, and the tires' soft squeak against the concrete floor.

GWANGJU

Gwangju's underground parking garage, steeped in profound silence, presented a contrasting but intriguing experience. In this almost suspenseful silence, occasional car alarms and the low growl of distant engines contributed to an engrossing soundscape. The melodic highlight was the sound of an electric BMW reversing into a spot, its soft engine purring in sync with the gentle squeaking of the tires.

At the exit of the same garage, I recorded the distant hum of city traffic, intermittent honks, the peaceful trickle of water from a nearby pipe, and the entrance and exit warning beeps of the garage, creating a unique auditory collage.
