Japanese Restaurant Sound Library | Okonomiyaki Osaka

Let's start the Japan SFX series with a wonderful restaurant sound library!

We visited the breathtaking Umeda sky building while in Osaka. After admiring the scenery, we went to the basement, which has several amazing restaurants. Keep in mind that not many restaurants are open during the day, but we found one that specializes in making the iconic Okonomiyaki, a very tasty Japanese street food pancake.

The amazing thing about this restaurant and how you're seated is that you can choose between sitting on a table with a hot plate, or directly in front of the chef and the cooking plate. You can probably guess where I took the spot. Right in front of the action. I asked the owner if I could record the ambience and kitchen sounds.

The owner and staff were all extremely accommodating, fun and friendly, and we were able to record the sound of the Okonomiyaki being made as well as the overall restaurant ambience. You might hear a Swiss German accent in the distance at first, and then more Japanese guests arrive, creating a wonderful walla.
