Seoul Sound Library | Chungmuro Printing Town (Binaural + VR)
Chungmuro is without a doubt, one of the most iconic and unique neighborhoods we discovered while living in Seoul.
It's one of the location, we hope it will never change and remains exactly how it is. A place with a heart, tradition and S(e)oul!
This Korean Sound Library is another location-specific collection of sound recordings solely recorded in Chungmuro, and there will be many more from Seoul, Gwangju, Busan, and Jeju Island in the near future!
WHAT IS CHUNGMURO KNOWN FOR? 🤔
This neighborhood was known for its theaters and production studios before many of them either closed or moved to Gangnam. What did not relocate to Gangnam were the many printing shops with a history dating back hundreds of years.
We had a little chat with one of the business owners while roaming around the lovely small alleyways and side streets, and the next thing we knew, we were inside a small shop recording the sounds of an old printing machine and a modern paper cutter.
This segment was also included in one of our YouTube videos when testing the new DPA 4560. These recordings are inside this sound library! Please feel free to check it out directly below.
WHAT DID WE RECORD IN THE STREETS OF CHUNGMURO? 🎙️
We decided to come back at night and recorded ambience in VR ambisonic sound with the RØDE NTSF-1.
This area is insanely busy during the day, and it's difficult not to run into someone hurrying through the streets, but it has an entirely different mood at night.
We wandered along side streets, recording sounds in dark and eerie alleyways, close to printing shops, and from a distance. The incredible sounds of the printing machines can be still heard from all directions.
WHAT IS ALL INCLUDED IN THIS LIBRARY? 🧺
We recorded the machinery inside the printing shop in standard stereo with the TASCAM X8 and in binaural stereo using the Zoom F6 and the new DPA 4560 in ear.
Aside from that, we recorded ambience in VR, which is a unique four channel recording. We exported these sounds in stereo format, but now that you have the VR files, you may down or up mix the recordings and modify the direction of the soundfield in any manner you like.
ARE THESE SOUND RECORDINGS INSIDE THE ALL IN ONE BUNDLE? 📥
YES! We update our All In One Bundle with all new sound recordings at the end of each month, and Chungmuro Printing Town is definitely included!
