5.1 Surround Sound Library - Rivers and Waterfalls
We're thrilled to introduce you to the latest addition to our sound library collection, and it's a first for us - a 5.1 Surround River & Waterfall sound library.
DPA 5100 Surround Microphone & Sound Devices Mix Pre 10ii
To deliver these wonderfully clear nature sounds, we purchased the DPA 5100 Surround Microphone and the Sound Devices Mix Pre 10ii.
The DPA 5100 excels in nature, capturing every detail. Yet, it is in combination with the Sound Devices Mix Pre 10ii that it truly shines. This top-notch field recorder is equipped with eight channels. This means we can dedicate six of those channels to the DPA 5100, recording the full surround sound spectrum while still having two channels in reserve.
Its exceptional low-noise preamps ensure the sound remains as crisp and clear as if you were standing right there with us in the rainforest.
What Nature Sounds Are Included?
Waterfall Ambience
We'll start with the waterfall. With a long and powerful drop, this natural wonder is nestled within a half-moon rock formation. This setup works marvelously for channels 5 and 6, as the sound strikes the rock face and bounces back, creating a unique echo effect recorded from behind the microphone.
River Ambience
Next up, we've got an abundance of river sounds. Our recordings near the waterfall were captured progressively, with each step taking us further away from the waterfall. The soothing babble, the energetic gush, and the calm trickle, interspersed with birds and cicadas, is not only a joy to listen to but also fun to mix in post-production.
Then, there are our morning river recording sessions. Perched on a rocky hilltop, with the river cascading downwards over the rocks and surrounded by the lively chatter of the rainforest, these sounds are pure gold. Birds waking up, cicadas starting their day, all set to the tranquil rhythm of the flowing river.
Additional Information
Why is channel 4 lower than the other 5 channels?
For those new to 5.1 surround sound, you might find it curious that channel 4's level is lower than the rest. The reason lies in the DPA 5100's design. It uses all five channels to electronically generate the essential 0.1 LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) channel.
By summing up the individual microphone signals and applying a specialized low-pass filter, the DPA 5100 successfully creates a rich and immersive low-frequency soundscape. So, don't be alarmed by the level difference - it's all part of the process in delivering high-quality surround sound.
Metadata & Sound Compilation
Interested in the metadata of our files? We have it prepared for you. We used Soundly to compile the metadata, ensuring you have all the information you need. You can easily download this data sheet as PDF, Excel, or CSV format.
While you're listening to the sound compilation, please note that it's presented in a down-mixed stereo version. This is because SoundCloud currently doesn't support playback of 6-channel recordings.
